What to Bring, What not to bring
This list of recommended items and prohibited items will help you pack and prepare to move-in to your home away from home in WCU Managed Housing.
It’s a good idea to connect with your roommate about items you may share (refrigerator, microwave, area rug, etc).
The WCU Campus Store carries many small items including toiletries, accessories for computers/chargers, first aid, school supplies and more.
What to bring
Bedding
- Sheets:
- Extra long twin (Twin XL, 80") for North Campus
- Standard twin (76") for South Campus Apartment Complex
- Blanket/Comforter/Bedspread
- Pillow
- Mattress Cover, Topper, Pad or Featherbed
- Bed Risers:
- Students are permitted to use bed risers that meet the following criteria:
- The material must be plastic and have a shape such that the bed posts fit fully within the risers and will not slip off.
- Raise the bed no more than 8" off the floor.
- Dimensions are 6.5" x 6"
- Hold weight of 440lbs or greater
- All four risers must be the same
- No homemade or wooden risers are permitted.
- Students are permitted to use bed risers that meet the following criteria:
Appliances/Electronics
- Refrigerator*:
- no larger than 3.6 cubic feet.
You may choose to rent a microwave/minifridge combined unit through Microfridge. Microfridge delivers the unit prior to move-in and will pick up the unit after you move out. - A refrigerator is provided in South Campus Apartments and College Arms Apartments.

- First Aid kit (Band-Aids, antibiotic cream, pain reliever)
- Cold medicine
- Thermometer
- Prescribed Medications
- Face Masks

What Not to Bring
These items are prohibited in residence halls:
- Appliances with an exposed heating element including but not limited to air fryers, hot plates, toaster ovens, deep fryers, electric frying pans, sandwich makers, grills (like the George Foreman Grill), halogen lamps (lava lamps)
- Heavy appliances
- Candles, incense, or wax warmers
- Octopus plugs of any kind, and extension cords/power strips that do not use Fire Shield technology
- Window air conditioners (all residence halls and apartments have central air or an air condition unit)
- Unregistered Pets (including fish). All animals on campus must be approved by the Office of Educational Accessibility.
- Lofts
- Aquariums (or any large water holding device)
- Street signs or neon signs
