Auditions in the MainStage Theatre, E.O.Bull Center for the Arts

Three Sisters: Anton Chekhov’s masterful drama Three Sisters redefined the form of theatre, bringing ‘theatrical realism’ to the modern stage. The Prozorov sisters long to leave their country estate and return to Moscow, but they find themselves trapped by financial hardships, tumultuous affairs, and their own inner demons. Chekhov navigates the sisters’ beautiful suffering with gentle humor, warmth, and compassion.

Silent Sky: When Henrietta Leavitt begins work at the Harvard Observatory in the early 1900s, she is not allowed to touch a telescope or express an original idea. Instead, she joins a group of women “computers,” charting the stars for a renowned astronomer who calculates projects in “girl hours” and has no time for the women’s probing theories. As Henrietta, in her free time, attempts to measure the light and distance of stars, she must also take measure of her life on Earth, trying to balance her dedication to science with family obligations and the possibility of love. Silent Sky, the true story of this 19th-century female astronomer, explores a woman’s place in society during a time of immense scientific discoveries, when women’s ideas were dismissed until men claimed credit for them. 

Audition Dates: Monday November 27, 6-10pm

Callback Info: Tuesday, November 28 from 6-10pm, and if needed Wednesday November 29. Callbacks for Three Sisters will occur in the JP Adler Theater and those for Silent Sky will take place in the MainStage Theatre. 

Rehearsals begin January 22, 2024

Show Dates: Three Sisters Feb 29-March 3, 2024 and Silent Sky April 4-7, 2024

Please prepare:

• Actors are to prepare two, one-minute monologues. It is preferred that the monologues are from the playwrights Anton Chekhov and Lauren Gunderson, or plays of a similar style, but not from Three Sisters or Silent Sky.

Important Information:

• All performance and leadership production positions are conditionally dependent upon the student maintaining good academic standing with the University and having an overall GPA of 2.5 or better, inclusive. Directors will be notified if students have ‘nonpassing’ grades in individual classes and the student will be strongly encouraged to meet with their academic advisor and the director.
• All students involved in WCU Department of Theatre and Dance productions are eligible for THA 200 credit. If cast or assigned a production position, and interested in academic credit, please contact our production manager, Dr. Christen Mandracchia at CMandracchia@wcupa.edu
• The casting for these productions is not limited by tradition, stereotypes, or social expectations. We embrace a policy of inclusive and conscious casting which maintains that 1) all roles are open to all performers regardless of identity and 2) we value the ways that a performer’s identity informs their storytelling.
